When you find yourself listening to a friend talk about what is wrong with them, how their body is failing them and you listen, hear, and empathize with them, but know you really are revolving around two different suns, read this book. When you think you understand, read this book.Manguso ably conveys the corrosive nature of living (more aptly, existing) with an autoimmune disease. Her sparse phrasing resonates so well both for the powerful images she paints and as a metaphor for the distilled sense of alienation one gets when even one's body rejects you.I finished this book nearly two weeks ago, but there has not been a day since when I have not gone back to read a passage or search for the exact words she used. It went from a book I picked up at the library to one I had to go and buy. And I really can not see it leaving my nightstand anytime soon.Seriously, read this book.
